Tribute to Parents

It will be a year since I graduated from high school... Just remembered my speech and all those fun times...

Good Evening!

Parents always say “Our children, our Treasure”. That leaves us into a conclusion that you our parents are our hunters. God had been the map who guided you through the years of searching. He had drawn the way even before you were married. As a hunter you followed the map. The every stop in the map are the challenges you’ve encountered when mom carried us in her womb and dad earned a living. Like treasure hunters you value us greatly for finding us is
not easy. You protect us from the evil guys and hides us where no one can take us from you for you love us. I would like to take this opportunity to recognize my hunters. Ma you have been a supportive mom and a wise one too. I remember the time when I was going to take my UPCAT. Before I entered the building you whispered in my ears, “Anak papasa ka, papasa ka anak”. Those words really touched me, I want to cry but I should not in front of many other takers. Your words had inspired me to do better. And now Ma I have passed the test and I owe it to you. To my dad even though I haven’t shown you much sweetness I love you still. Would I be given a chance to pick a dad I would still pick you for I love you and I’m proud to be your daughter. To my grandparents thank you for all the prayers, your faith had helped me achieve all this pleasures.

Every time we suffer from pain of the heart and of the mind you are there to comfort us and raise our hopes. It is the greatest part of having problems when parents are there to present a solution. Whenever we’re ill we love the attention you’re giving us for it is the greatest part of being sick.

We admire your patience and love every time we disrespect, hurt, answer back and not follow you. And for all the headaches and consummation we gave you, we apologize.

I remember one scenario in our room when we were having an open forum. One of my classmates said, “Kaya ako ganto kasi may problema ako sa tatay ko” and another classmate, with teary eyes said, “Alam mo blessed ka pa nga eh, kasi nandiyan pa tatay mo. Ako minsan ko lang Makita si papa kasi hiwalay na sila ni mama. Dapat pinapahalagahan mo tatay mo kasi mas mahirap kapag wala na siya sa tabi mo.” After she said this more and more of my classmates stood and spoke words of pagpapahalaga sa magulang. As I looked around, I saw eyes filled with tears and heard sobbings of inconceivable pain. I was able to see a new side of them, behind all those smiles and laughter there was sorrow. Through this I can say that my fellow students love their parents very much and they don’t want others to experience what they had. They don’t want to see children longing for their parents’ love and attention, parents forgetting responsibilities to them. Above all, parents who go on separate ways.

I really admire my fellow students who have single parents for the later do two works in one. A dad who earns a living and a mom who takes care of a home. Despite the difficulties you never get tired of doing these things and we see you work hard and strive. Thus, as your children we are urged and given inspiration to study hard, work at home and be a loving child.

To every mom and dad and guardian all our achievements are yours. Because of you we became part of this special occasion. Please appreciate us, don’t just nod. Smile and say good things about us, for it is your appreciation that we value most.

This institution our alma mater have teachers who religiously do their job, who guide us spiritually and serve as our friend. To our teachers who have been our second parents, our hunter’s sidekick. We want to express our profound gratitude for our high school life became meaningful. Your life stories made us learn life’s best lessons. Our deer parents don’t let this night end without shaking their hands and thanking them for they are the very reason behind the knowledge in our head and the love and joy we radiate for everyone

Hunters we’re grateful for you. You worked hard all these years and today is your reward day and may many more things like these come your way. To our OFW parents who came home for this special day we express gratitude to you. You made this special day a better day for you made all things possible and easy for us. For in every mind that keeps on thinking and every hand that keeps on moving. Your greatest reward is to see us graduate since this states that your
hard work paid off. We offer you our diploma, our medals, our achievements because we would like to recognize your sacrifice. You people are heroes of our life.

To our hunters we might not always give you joy but for this night we offer you our achievements. And to end this I would like to read a poem that I composed entitled Being a Parent.

Being a parent
Is like planting good seeds
Sprinkling then day by day
With over flowing love
Laying them under the sun
As the world opens up

When pests enter you prated us
When we look pale you talk to us
When troubles arise you restore us
And as we fall you pick us up even before
We fall upon the ground

When we grow taller each day
You smile saying “I’ve done a great job!”
You leap in joy as we bear fruits,
Huge, luscious and lovely fruits.
And that rewards you for an excellent job

Fellow graduates please get ready for the giving of certificates of appreciation to our parents.
