It's Human Nature To Find the Cause

It’s human nature to find for the cause of an effect. And usually if the effect is negative the cause is another person or thing and frequently the enemy.

Sports fest and field demo were the most awaited activities during a foundation week in our school.  We celebrated its 26th year from February 14 – 18, 2011.

Before the celebration our class experienced long tiring and stressful practices for our presentation which is cheering. We asked for several permissions and excuses from our parents for going home at a late time. Spending a large number of money for our needs was another problem we experienced. It was also hard to manage such a big group with different opinions, personalities and priorities. But what make me glad was each one loves what they are doing, willing to sacrifice and bare the difficulty.

February 15 the day of presentation, everyone is ready and excited but nervous. Our turn came fast, we’re in the center now. A group shouted something to discourage us but were on fire nothing can stop us. We gave our best and many people appreciated it by shouting, cheering and clapping. The audience were cheering wildly when we ended. They are congratulating us for a good performance. Soon the winners were announced and we were thrilled.

The following days we had the sports fest. I cheered and supported my batch mates for they were so good. They have the talent and love for the game. Teamwork was exhibited and I’m proud to say that. Advices were given to players. Others offer water to thirsty players.  But what I really admired was their faith. I saw players and cheerers pray frequently before and after the game even when making a point. That’s why we won as champions.

But things don’t go well with everyone. We saw some unfairness in players and officials. Other players hit their opponents and officials favor a group. They questioned our victory, saying that we play rough and unfair. Maybe there are some truths in what they say but it was exaggerated. I saw our players helping their opponent stand up after falling down.

Losing was not part of their plan so it was hard to accept it and maybe they lack faith and teamwork. Judging was another thing they did. Our players may not be very nice in school but as John Mariucci said, “Every day you guys look worse and worse.  And today you played like tomorrow.” Everyone has its forte and they act on it with great love.

Two things should be learned in these circumstances: Fairness and Acceptance. Fairness is not an attitude. It's a professional skill that must be developed and exercised. Live so that when your children think of fairness, caring, and integrity, they think of you. Defeat is not the worst of failures. Not to have tried is the true failure because we learned much more from defeat than we ever learned from winning. If you can accept losing, you can't win.
